FCAT Tutoring – Florida Students

Understanding the FCAT

Development of the Sunshine State Standards began in 1993, and the standards were officially adopted by the State Board of Education in 1996. The standards are sub-divided into units known as “benchmarks,” which outline the knowledge and skills that students are expected to learn while in school.

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® (FCAT) is an integral part of the State of Florida’s plan to increase student achievement. Each student’s performance on the standardized Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science tests indicates his or her progress in reaching these benchmarks.

When Students Take the FACT

Students take various FCATs starting in Grade 3 and continuing through Grade 11 as described below:

  • Reading – Grades 3-11
  • Writing – Grades 4, 8 and 10
  • Mathematics – Grades 3-11
  • Science – Grades 5, 8 and 11
